The Law of Similars

The Law of Similars is the foundational principle behind homeopathy. It states that a substance capable of producing certain symptoms in a healthy person can, in a very diluted and prepared form, support the body in resolving similar symptoms when someone is unwell. The phrase often used to describe this is “like cures like.”

A simple analogy: think of coffee. In a healthy person, a strong cup of coffee before bed might cause restlessness, a racing mind, and difficulty falling asleep. Homeopaths would consider this profile when someone consistently struggles with exactly that kind of restless, wakeful state, unrelated to a coffee habit. The homeopathic remedy made from unroasted coffee beans may be chosen to gently support the body's own return to a calm and restful state.

Coffea cruda is the homeopathic remedy made from unroasted coffee beans.

This is different from conventional approaches, which often use substances that work in the opposite direction of a symptom (an “law of opposites” approach, such as a sedative to force sleep). Instead, homeopathy works with the body's own tendencies, using a very small, specific nudge that mirrors what it is already experiencing, in order to encourage its natural process of shifting back into balance.

The remedies used are highly diluted and succussed or shaken at each step, through a specific process, so what remains is understood energetically rather than chemically or materially. This is why homeopathy is considered gentle and is generally well suited to be used alongside other approaches to wellness.
